RELIGION IS A CULTURE ON ITS OWN - 16 APRIL 2016
May the Sabbath day be a blessing unto the holy multitude. Today’s topic is “Religion is a Culture on its own.”
Matthew 6: 9-10
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven”
On the Sabbath Eve, the day was the 26 March 2011, the Angel Hlaleleni visited me. With her were the heavenly dignitaries to anoint me as the Leader of the Nazarites Church of God.
In Nazarite tradition one cannot disclose the proceedings of an annointment ceremony, as it is strictly confidential. I will for this reason not elaborate further on the matter.
Until that day I had not been told anything about this ceremony. The only ceremony I was aware of was a traditional "Welcoming Ceremony" ( umcimbi wokwamukelwa), scheduled for the 27th March 2011. On this ceremony the congregation was set to welcome my Priesthood and the position of leading the Church in conformity with the tradional practice of the amaNazaretha.
Due to other constraints congregates had previously suggested that the Welcoming Ceremony be rather postponed to the weekend of the 3rd April 2011. However, after we had agreed on the ceremony day to be on the 3 April 2011, this Messenger of God arrived and disapporoved of this day. Her words were," The day you have chosen is not suitable for this ceremony, for on that day in heaven there will be an unpleasant ceremony."
We could not understand what the Angel meant by that, but after the ceremony of the 27, on Monday the 28th we heard the sad news of passing away of the Leader of the Church of amaNazaretha, (M.V. Shembe). The Angel came back on the very same day and remaked, “Now you understand this heavenly unpleasant ceremony I told you about"
On the 26 March 2016 was the day on which I completed 5 years of the heavenly task given to me. In politics it could be said that I am completing my first term in office. In that way it is fair to reflect back over the years to establish whether or not I have carried my task in terms of the mandate I was instructed to follow when given this task.
Since the day I left the Nazareth Baptist Church and directed to form this Church, I constantly explained about the mandate given to me.
Firstly I explained that the Angel Hlaleleni, who was already known to me, visited me on 04 January 2010 and said She has been sent by the Lord Galilee Shembe (2nd Leader of the Church who passed on in 1976) that I must build for him the House of Jehovah.
She explained to me that by "House" Lord Galilee was referring to the Congregation or Church. She further told me that the Lord Galilee Shembe had given instruction that in that Church I will teach people the correct way of worshipping Jehovah as it was taught by Prophet Isaiah Shembe. This is my mandate as well as my mission in carrying out this task.
I, however, found it difficult to start carrying this task, for I did not know how I could leave my Church and simply start another Church.
But on the 21 August 2010, some 14 Priests, Evangelist and Preachers stormed into the Temple I was heading, with the aim to overthrow me. I had not been told of any transgression, however, some senior anointed members of the Church and the Angel had already informed me about the plot to oust me from the Church. Fortunately on that day their plot did not materialise.
After the incident, the Angel Hlaleleleni visited me looking very much upset. She told me that the Lord Galilee Shembe was angry with me, for he had long instructed me to leave the Church and do what I am told to do, but I disobey the instruction.
The Angel then said “You now have to choose whether to be expelt from the Church by the Priests and end up being an alcoholic and possibly commit suicide, or to do as you have been instructed, leave the Church before you are defiled, and work for Jehovah!
I said " I choose to work for Jehovah and leave my Congregation." the Angel replied “You should leave before the following Festival Meeting on which they intend to expel you.” I agreed and immediately announced my departure.
After that the Angel taught me a lot in preparation for the 26th March 2011 where I was to be annointed as a leader of the New Church.
The crucial question is whether, from the 26 March 2011 up until this day, I have done what I was instructed by the Lord Galilee Shembe to do, which is, TO TEACH THE CORRECT WAY OF WORSHIPPING JEHOVAH AS IT WAS TAUGHT BY THE PROPHET ISAIAH SHEMBE.
Is there anything that the people didn’t know before, that they learned as far as how God Jehovah wants to be worshipped?
We should explore just what this evangelism has taught the people about the oneness of God who is Jehovah. We need to know whether people's perception about the Prophet of God, Isaiah Shembe, is still the same,( that he was the impostor).
In my Facebook page, one of the listeners who sounded like a Muslim, made the following comments about my teachings:
"Even now I still strongly maintain that Reverend Mpanza is a Muslim who is in the religion of the people of the book (Judaism, and Christianity)."
After this comment I then made remarks that what he was saying was not clear to me and that he should elaborate on his comments.
In his reply he said:
"Rev. Mpanza believes in the the basic principle (of religion) which is built on the oneness of God. He believes in the Divine rule system which is enshrined mostly on the teaching that marriage should come before sexual association. This is one example of what he maintained in the topic “Bride-price from religious perspective.”
He (Reverend Mpanza) believes in life after death, also believing in the teachings and commands of the different prophets of God.
He (Reverend Mpanza) teaches that sacrifices should be made to Jehovah only and not to the people who have passed on.
He agrees that those who have left this earth can be remembered through prayers and sacrifices that are made to the Almighty; this is to mention but a few things."
In my response I said that I cannot deny what he avers, as all of these are the teachings of Prophet Isaiah Shembe. However, what I teach is not based on the Quran as I am not so much acquinted with the verses of that Book.
My teachings are based on what the Angel Hlaleleni has taught me, and all Her teachings are based on the Bible and on the Hymns and Liturgies of the Prophet Isaiah Shembe. I asked whether he implies that these teachings are not found in the Torah.
In his reply he said," Reverend, the teachings are there in the Torah, but are hidden to average people who are not fortunate to find someone like you whose primary purpose is to give all praise to the Almighty.
But it is those who seek self-praise and to elevate their earthly gods so that they be worshipped, their objective being to mislead us and accumulate for themselves earthly wealth.
May this Kingdom you preach about, enter the hearts of many people, because it is through such teachings that the Kingdom that Jesus announced will come and the will of God be done on earth as in heaven. In most cases God’s word does not separate but unites, as you teach."
I did not further my discussion with this Muslim follower, but it was obvious to me that he sees my teachings as aimed at giving Praise to the Creator, he was reiterating the teachings of the Angel.
However, this view of this Muslim follower is not shared by everyone. Another gentleman from the amaNazaretha made the following comment on the same page.
“You so and so, what you are listening to is the talk of the White person. It is the talk of people who cannot protect anything that is African; who have never criticised any western traditions. They started to criticise ancentral sacrifice, then traditional attires, now they criticise payment of bride-price."
When this person says “It is the talk of a White person," he is referring to me as a White person.
The Angel has condemned ancestral worshipping and sacrifices if done by the religious people as the God also condemns it. The Angel has never condemned traditional attire but rather discouraged it from the followers of the Nazarites Church of God for the reasons I will later give.
I have never condemned the Lobola/Bride-price custom as I stated clearly that it is a tradition which is not repugnant to any commandment of the Lord. But I did condemn the crimes committed in the name of this custom.
This was not the only disparaging remarks from some of amaNazaretha; in another page there was the post by another umaNazaretha entitled:
“Is Mpanza still sane, why would he deliberately lie about Shembe’s teachings early in the morning?”
On following this post, trying to find where I had lied about Shembe, I discovered that I was being opposed on the fact that I had said that in iBandla lamaNazaretha Shembe catagorised marriages into two; there is a traditional marriage which allows polygamy and devine marriage which allows one wife.
By this explanation, this umNazaretha regards my teachings as lies against Shembe. In iBandla lamaNazaretha there is a Marriage Liturgy written and used by the Prophet in marriage ceremony.
This Liturgy was also used by the Lord Galilee Shembe on marriage ceremony for many years, perhaps till 1965.
It is in this Book where an explanation is given that there are two types of marriages; there is a traditional marriage that allows polygamy and the devine marriage which allows one wife. Both Prophet Isaiah Shembe and Lord Galilee Shembe followed this marriage Liturgy when officiating on marriages.
The instruction I received was that I will revive the teachings of Prophet Isaiah Shembe; and therefore teaching people about his doctrine can never be translated as misleading people, nor shall it be described as lies.
This gentleman was furthering the vilification I received from a fake Facebook user named “Maranyan” where I was called a demon that deserves any kinds of vilification because by explaning the stance of our faith as far as polygamy is concerned , I am insulting Shembe.
Everyone who listened to my sermon knows very well that I explained that polygamy is not a sin. Even Biblical prophets used to take more than one wife. I however have encountered a lot of disgraceful smear from other amaNazaretha.
However, whenever you are in a mission to spread the Gospel of the Lord you must expect insults, smear and even attacks.
The topic of this sermon is “Religion is a Culture on its own.” What does this mean? This means that if you are religious, you holistically follow the relio-cultural ways of that religion. All religions are like this.
I am not so knowledgeable on Hinduism but I have interacted with Indians under this faith. Every time they talk about their life-style, they will tell you “This is not allowed in Hinduism” they tell you nothing about Indian Culture.( Their pride is in their religion.)
Also so are the Muslims, they will explain to you their religio-Cutural life in accordance with their religion; they know nothing about Arabic Culture.
The Nazarites are also supposed to behave in that way; In his liturgy the Prophet wrote the following: “Remember that today you have made a covenant with Jehovah your God that you shall live in the House of Jehovah for the rest of your days.”
Being a Nazarite means that the Nazarite shall have his life-style governed by the heavenly commands, which are his culture, whilst still on earth. The Kingdom and will of God that Jesus talked about be practised whilts on this world. Shembe never taught us about our own indigenous cultures.
Amongst the amaNazaretha, there are those who are of a view that teaching about the Bible is to promote foreign culture the White man's culture. These amaNazaretha seem to believe that Moses and Jesus were Whites, maybe so is Jehovah. Due to this kind of little knowledge, they conclude that the Biblical teachings are the Western teachings.
When I was tasked to spread the Word of God, I was given the Bible and the Liturgy and Hymn Book of the Prophet Isaiah Shembe. The heavenly Word instructed me that all my teachings about Jehovah will be based on these two Books, I haven’t strayed from this.
When elaborating about on this heavenly teaching, the Angel said “Prophet Isaiah Shembe was sent from Heaven to start this religion of Jehovah to the Zulu Nation, in the same manner in which the same religion was brought to the Hebrews by Moses, and was also in the same manner that it was delivered by Prophet Mohamed to the Arabs.
This is one religion brought to different nations during different times, by different prophets; an important element is how the nations to which the religion is sent accept the massage and practice the commandments of the Lord. The religion brought to the Hebrews which was subsequently called Judaism has subsequently developed another religion which is Christianity.
On Shembe’s arrival amongst the Zulu nations, the missionaries were already spreading their Gospel which taught people to abandon their tradition even when those traditions were not repugnant to any Lord’s commandments. Shembe, however, opposed them and stated that to wear traditional attire or to marry more than one wife were not repugnant to God's Commandments.
When Shembe declared that wearing traditional attire and marrying in polygamy were not sinful he did not mean that there is any commandment of God which states that we should wear traditional attire or marry polygamously.
That is why Shembe stated categorically clear that there is a traditional marriage that allows a person to take more than one wife, and a devine marriage which allows one wife. It is up to the person concerned to choose.
This clarification of Prophet Isaiah Shembe about marriages is astounding.
The Angel continued and said that this religion of Jehovah has been among the Zulu nation for more than a century now. Shembe however explained in his hymns that the Gospel of Jehovah should spread to all nations.
In that way there will be no reason to enforce Zulu traditions to other nations, for an example wearing traditional clothing. Not wearing traditional clothing does not make one become White because even other Blacks do not wear traditionally. Even Zulu’s only wear their traditional attire on special Cultural events.
The Muslim follower who describes me as a Muslim under the Christianity is correct, if by that he means that I teach the Gospel of Jehovah as it is found in the Bible and in the Quran, for that is my heavenly mandate.
The religion in the Torah is brought to us by Moses and Moses was taught by Jehovah. The religion in the Quran is brought to the Muslims by Mohamed and he derived it from the teachings of the Angel Gabriel.
My teachings come from the Angel Hlaleleni, she uses the Bible and Nazarites Hymn book, this religion is the revival of Prophet Isaiah Shembe's teachings brought to him by God Jehovah.
During these five years of vilification and insult I suffered as I spread the Gospel, all I can do is to praise the one worthy to be praised by saying:
Lord of Heaven and Earth,
Who is not attracted by man's physical appearance,
Who does is not guided by wordly intelligence
Who is not directed by man's progeny
But follows His wil.
I am nothing on earth,
Only a thing of vilification.
But you made me something in heaven
You have sent your heavenly Messengers
To anoint me with your oil of grace.
The worldly people had vowed
That within three months
This thing( your Word) will vanish
But until this very day
You have manifested your presence
Through your poor servant.
Many who love you
Have obeyed your Word,
They left sins and transgression
And follow Thee Everlating!
Deliverer of the imprisoned
There is no insult and vilification,
Not confronted by your poor servant
But through your grace
You hid him in your Wings.
Praise be Thou Rock of the aged,
Praise be Thou heavenly fortress
May your grace cover those who trust in you!
Thou Almighty!
May your heavenly Spirit cover me,
Hide me from my enemies,
And the enemies of ubuNazaretha Faith.
May they be conquared by you
Who fight with your Holiness.
Let the Heavenly Message
Be heard throughout the world,
Let all you people
Return to you!
May the Lord bless His Word.
